DESCRIPTION

"KALENDÁŘ ČESKÝCH ŠACHISTŮ 1917"

1st YEAR

VERY RARE AND VERY SCARCE

Kautský, V.: "Kalendář českých šachistů 1917". 1st YEAR.

Praze, self-edition, 1917. Original publisher maroon cloth edition with gold-embossed print on cover. 64 + (4 adverts) pages + (12) pages of plain crosstables, diagrams and scoresheets. 5 photos in text: in pages 53, 55, 56, 58, and 59. 15,6 x 10,3 cm. In Czech.

Fair to poor: Missing both free endpaper and also missing (as often) last 6 blank leaves. Binding is loose, with few interior cracking, pencil notes. Text part is generally OK. Honestly, a book that is not in the desired condition, but whose interior is well, and it is a very rare and scarce, and very difficult to achieve. To know the approximate condition, please see the photos. All the major defects are photographed.

In the scoresheets of the final 4 games are written, I think that not published (not present in the databases), with some very important players!!! I think 1st game: Spielmann-Vidmar, 2nd game: Dobias-Kautsky, 3rd game Breyer-Balla (honestly, I'm not sure, but perhaps this "signed" (I not think) at the bottom of the worksheet by Breyer), and 4th game Ljunggren-Wegemund.

Linde - N. 5910; Kieler Schachkatalog 145; Soukup 49; Mokry 193.

Czech yearbook- from the content: UJCS statutes, address book of Czech players and clubs, Czech books on chess 1907-16, overview of chess events in 1915-1916, Gallery of Czech chess players with biographical sketches and photos (Jan Dobrusky, Ladislav Cimburek, Karel Fiala, Josef Patzelt, and Josef Pospisil), victims of the 1st World War, and more.

3 calendars/yearbooks were published in this series, from 1917 to 1919. The last is the most rare and difficult to obtain. In fact, in L/N and in the Kieler Schachkatalog appear only the 2 first. In the link http://www.sachy-vsetin.cz/files/files/2_Sachova_prirucka_Mrazik_a_Skalicka.pdf , it is possible to see a version scanned from the book "ŠACHOVÁ PŘÍRUČKA", Karel Skalička, V.Mrazík, 1926, and page 62 are the 3 published calendars.
