This copy has the chess book plate of the famous James Barrett Chess Book Collection, and is INSCRIBED to WALTER PENN SHIPLEY by JAMES T. MAGEE!!!, the leading light of the Good Companions and the magazine's editor. Shipley was a friend and confidant to all the leading American players of his day as well as being a  chess player, organizer, and leading American chess personality of the period about 1910 to his death in 1942. Marbled endpapers and also endpapers with notes by DAVID LAWSON and JAMES BARRETT. A very choice item, since in addition to its great pedigree, it has much chess history of the day plus chess problem content and photos and drawings. The magazine itself never had a large circulation, but it was the key chess problem magazine of its day with problem devotees from around the world in its membership.
