Praha 1953
3rd Kovar memorial tournament
tournament hall during the play
size 18 x 13 cm
Strong national tournament, 14 players, mostly masters, the winner was young Miroslav Filip, 10 of 13 – ahead of Zita, Fichtl etc.
The photo was published in the magazine Ceskoslovensky sach 1953, page 163.
Good: light wear to corners; number „54“ pencilled at the front; pencil notices on the back.
The tournament winner, GM Miroslav Filip, is playing at the second table as Black.
Biographical data:
Miroslav Filip (1928-2009), Czech GM, the best Czechoslovak player in 1950s, one of world's best chess players around 1960, World Championship Candidate 1956 and 1962.
