Many diagrams. XVI, 852 pages. L/N 719. Kieler Schachkatalog 2381. Bilguers "Handbuch des Schachspiels" was so famous for a long time that it was simply called "the Bilguer". Until 1922 eight editions and one reprint were published. "It has become ... the most important theoretical work of the whole chess literature."(v. d. Linde II, 15).

This 7th Bilguer edition contains the bibliography: Chronologische Übersicht der Schachlitteratur, pp. 33-72. 40 pages. The list includes chess works which are available for practical Chess and omits most medieval works. The list begins with the Göttinger Handschrift 1490 and list more than 50 works each with a detailed description. No illustrations. 

Condition: Privately bound in half-bound leather with raised bands and gilt print on spine. Crack inside between title page and book block. Minor spots and a few dog ears. From smokers household.
