DESCRIPTION

F. J. Prokop: 100 samomatu

100 author's selfmates

Prague, self-edition, 1940

Prokop, F. J.: 100 samomatu. 100 Selbstmattaufgaben. 100 Problems of Selfmate. Praha, author's self-edition, 1940. Orig. softcover. 80 pages. In Czech, with 3-language foreword. Size 18 cm. The weight 100 grams. Soukup 100; Mokry 74, LN 2834.

Good: front cover somewhat soiled/stained (picture). Halftitle, last page and rear cover are slightly stained. Minor tear ca 0.25 cm to the fore-edge of rear cover. Pages are OK with no writings.

The book is in Czech but foreword appears in three languages - Czech, German and English.

Follow 100 author's selfmates, of which 12 are published for the first time. These original problems have alway a „big“, full-page diagram (pic 4). The other problems have small diagrams as in picture 5. All problems are diagrammed, with date and place of first publication and solutions. Index at the end.

Frantisek Josef Prokop (1901 – 1973) was noted composer, his speciality were self-mates and endgame studies. He was a strong player, too.

Prokop wrote almost 10 chess books and this is considered as the scarcest of them.
