DESCRIPTION

Miroslav Jurka (1964-2013)

strong Brno chess player

Biography + ca 50 annotated games

published in low edition – 30 copies

Jurka, Miroslav / Jurkova, Alena / Zavodny, Zdenek: Mat ve stredni hre.  Brno, self-edition of Alena Jurkova, 2015. Orig. hardcover with no dust jacket, as issued. 150 + 32 + (4) pages, many b/w and color photos in text. In Czech. Size 20 cm. The weight 350 grams.

Fine:  like new.

Miroslav Jurka was one of the strongest chess players in Brno, Czechia. He died prematurely at the age of 49.

The book was privately published in a small edition by Alena Jurkova (Miroslav Jurka’s wife). The book was never offered in the bookshops, it was available only for friends and colleagues. I was told that circulation was only 30 copies – however this fact is not stated in the book.

The book includes:

  • about 50 annotated games, many of them by Jurka himself
  • a set of ca 30 short chess articles written by him
  • full text of his booklet Jezkovite struktury (written in 1992)
  • Jurka’s life story
  • bio and remembrances of his family and chess friends
  • color and bw photos, etc.

The book title means in English „Mate in the middlegame“.
