DESCRIPTION

Slovensky sach 1941-1942

(Second series)

volumes 1-2 = all published

Slovensky sach 1941-1942 (=complete run of the Second series). Bratislava, 1941-1942. Contemporary half-cloth, spine lettered. 40 + 142 pages. Size 22.5 cm. In Slovak. 400 grams. Not in LN. KB Hague has only 1941. Not in Soukup. Not in CPL. di Felice 2494 (only volume 1941 = record according to the Hague library).

Good plus: binding is OK, with minor edge wear. Light general signs of use, no major flaws. Occasionally small neat underlinings in red crayon – it is possible that this copy was owned by Richard Brix, who was one of the editors. The underlinings appear almost always only in the sentences where Brix’s name is mentioned. Front covers of double-issue 1-2/1941 and 1/1942 are bound in.

Editor-in-chief of this magazine was Ludovit Potucek, the magazine includes sections on practical chess, composition, news and correspondence chess. Some of editors were Mikulas Milan, Richard Brix, Vladimir Rohacek.

Similarly like the First series of the Slovensky sach, this Second series brings a lot of information, which are not available from other sources, for example:

  • detailed report of the First Slovak chess congress in Trencianske 1941 with results, ca 6 crosstables and about 40 annotated games
  • results and games from the Bratislava championships
  • reports and games from the two Slovakia-Croatia matches
  • several crosstables and games from the correspondence tournaments

The magazine is missing in the LN 1955 catalogue, and does not appear in other public chess libraries worldwide.

The Hague Koninklijke Bibliotheek lists only volume 1 with a note „no longer published“ (Niet verder verschenen), what is not correct, as is evident from this offer. The OCLC system and di Felice records are only according to the Hague item.

The magazine is rare and almost does not appear in the market. It is for the first time when a complete volume of the Slovensky sach is in our offer.

In 1940-1942 was published different magazine with the same name (something like Slovensky sach Series 1). In another auction, we are listing 2 volumes of the First series – volume 1 for 1940 and volume 2 for 1941.
