Rare publication of the history of chess from the origin of the chess game to its introduction in Western and Central Europe. The author was a professor of Oriental languages in London. In this edition he gives an overview of the early history of the game, deals with Tschaturanga, Shatranj and their oriental variations as well as the medieval game in Arabia and Europe. 

Condition: Some wear on spine. Paper yellowed. Bumped on corners and edges. Exlibris Enevoldsen. Minor cracks and spots inside. From smokers household.
