The book consists of two independent parts - the first are Pavel Houser’s short chess stories, the second part brings chess compositions of Mario Matous. Pavel Houser (born 1972) wrote several tens of stories with the chess theme, the book presents 22 of them. One story is usually 6-8 pages long and the title of the last story Cernobila cesta gave name to the book.

Mario Matous (1947-2013) is considered as one of the best Czech endgame study composers - if not the best one. He is also well-known worldwide. The book brings 45 compositions of Mario Marous - 39 endgame studies and 6 problems, all with annotated solutions. The book also includes short biographical articles about the authors and their photos.

The book title means in English „The Black-and-White Way“
