VERY RARE, SCARCE, AND VERY HARD TO FIND

Venezia, Appresso Giovanni Gatti, con licenza de' superiori, MDCCLXXVIII (1778). Private marbled decorated softback binding, with removable plastic protection. Title in decorated border, engraved vignette and interesting typographical headpiece. 119 pages. 18,5 x 11,5 cm. In Italian.
Very good: Some defects. Inside in very good to excellent condition. To know the approximate condition, please see the photos. All the major defects are photographed.

Rare original and only edition (according to Sanvito there is a second edition of 1788, but on the Internet there is no evidence of their existence) of these eight letters by Giambatista Verci (1739-1795) to the Countess Francesca Roberti Franco on the game of chess.
In 1994 the text of these letters was considered interesting enough to publish a modern annoteted edition. Cat. Chess collect. Royal Libr. The Hague 4156; Alessandro Sanvito ed., Le lettere scacchistiche di Giambattista Verci. Venice 1994 (= Scacchio e scienze applicate 12).
