"ASÍ JUEGA UNA MUJER"

AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL BOOK OF SONJA GRAF (1908-1965) COLLECTION OF CHESS SONJA GRAF'S GAMES

By Sonja Graf (1941)

Buenos Aires, Editorial Sudamericana, 1941. Original softback edition. 1 plate + 300pages + 4 unnumbered pages of Games Index + 1 unnumbered page of Index. 18,5 x 12,7. In Spanish.

Good: The main flaw is the condition of the covers, something dirty and with small cracks on the edges (a something more important in the back cover) and in the spine. On the inside of the covers, dirt and remainder of adhesive backed plastic (cellophane). Part of the spine is loose on the inside (I think it's easy to paste it), but the book is perfectly united. Almost all of the pages without cutting into the top margin. On the other hand, some small foxing stain at the top of the pages, but the interior is quite clean. To know the approximate condition, please see the photos. All the major defects are photographed.

Linde - N. 3070.

RARE, VERY SCARCE AND VERY HARD TO FIND. Although its normal price ranges between 200 and 300 EUR, a copy was sold in an online auction (other than ebay) ca 10 years ago for quite high price of ca 450 euros ($500+).

The book contains 120 pages of biography followed by 50 selected games - the games are mainly against men opponents, some of them are against Vera Menchik. All games are annotated either by Sonja Graf or by various masters: Alekhine (game 20), Euwe (games 6, 12 and 14-15), Tarrasch (games 1-3, 8, 11 and 13), Flohr (game 26 jointly with Sonja Graf), Spielman (game 27), Becker (game 9), Grau (game 42), Rey (game 4), Winter (game 21) and Müller (game 5).

Sonja Graf, 1908-1965, was the second-best women chess player in 1930s (after Vera Menchik).
