Das Schachproblem

Berger, Johann. The chess problem and its artful representation. A guide for problem friends. Leipzig, Veit, 1884. 8 °. With 1 portrait and many diagrams. VIII, 278 pages. Brown cloth binding with gilt title on spine. With very nice ex-libris from Hugo v.Reininghaus who was known due his publications in art history. Linde - N. 2461; Kiel chess catalog 6321. The Austrian master Johann Berger (1845 - 1933) was an important theoretician and problem composer and influenced the development of the art chess with his treatment of the problem section of the German chess newspaper. With this issue he wanted to codify the principles of the wide-ranging variant problem of the older German school.

Condition: Binding with wear. Corners bumped. Spine/hinge with chippings and a crack, but everything still in place. Title page with name stamp. Stains on the page 278 affects pages 275-278. Otherwise inside nice and clean. Please take a careful look at the attached pictures, these are part of the description. Overall Assessment = Still Good!

Postage EUR (insurance included) : Austria € 3,90; Germany € 9,90; other EU countries € 12,90; Non-EU countries please ask

I combine shipping – you always pay just real postage! The packing materials are free.

I send with the so called "Paketmarke" (for further information https://www.post.at/privat_versenden_paket_paketmarke.php) which is in general the most cost effective and reliable way to send parcels in Austria. One feature is that the shipment costs are defined via the the longest and the shortest side of the parcel. The weight isn´t important although it is limited to 31,5 kg. The parcel is also insured up to € 500,-.

  1. PM 045 = longest and the shortest side of the parcel are added max. 45 cm) GER=€9,90, other EU = €12,90
  2. PM 070 = longest and the shortest side of the parcel are added max. 70 cm) GER=€14,90, other EU = €17,90
  3. PM 120 = longest and the shortest side of the parcel are added max. 120 cm) GER=€19,90, other EU = €22,90

Therefore if you buy more than 1 lot and the books fit into the same parcel, the shipment costs will be the same as for 1 book.

Important : Please wait with payment until you get my confirmation email, as the shipping costs have to be calculated.
