Later binding in red cloth, excellent condition for a book that is nearly 200 years old.
Although Whyld & Ravilious state that this has 351 pages, there are in fact 352 + 2 pages, the final pagination being: 351, 352, unnumbered, 351.
A "revised and improved" edition by Lewis of Sarratt's Treatise first published in 1808.
The 14 page Preface is largely a discusion of chess literature up to the time of Philidor.
Laws of the game, considerable analysis of the openings, 70 pages of endgame analysis and 78 Critical Situations.
