The covers are worn with the spine being particularly faded. A little foxing internally.
The book has four Parts: Part I, The Elements - gives general instructions on how to play. Part II, Games - gives further instructions followed by openings, middle games, endings, games actually played and 18 studies.
Part III, Problems - desribes how to compose and solve chess problems with 96 examples and solutions, plus 14 "special problems".
Part IV, Historical Notes - includes a very brief history of the game followed by a list of composers who have published their own problems in books, and a list of "the most important works published during the last thirty years".
