by Harrie Grondijs

(Chess Craze Bad volume IV)

One of 37 numbered/signed copies

Grondijs, Harrie: Chess Craze Bad Volume IV: Daniel Williard Fiske, chess bibliophile and chess visionary.

Maastricht, De Groene Loper (formerly RUEB), 2017. Orig. hardcover with a dust jacket. 238 pages. Many color + b/w photos and illustrations. Limited edition of 37 numbered copies, signed by the author. This is copy no. 27. Size 25.5 cm. 700 grams. In English.

Fine condition: new book.

The focus of this book is on Daniel W. Fiske (1831-1904), chess bibliophile, collector, organizer and one of the most important persons in early history of chess in America.

The book includes many (ca 45) so far unpublished letters by Fiske to chess collector George Allen (and to some others) on chess matters.

The other chapters present Fiske as a bibliophile, ardent collector, editor of the Chess Monthly, organizer of the First American Chess Congress in NY 1857, etc.

Harrie Grondijs is expert on history of chess and endgame studies. His books, which always have high quality of both content and form, often bring information that is hard to find in other sources.

I am listing a small collection of Harrie Grondijs' works – all are limited/signed editions. Please visit my other auctions for details.
