The British Chess Magazine, volume XVII, 1897. Edited by Isaac M. Brown, London 1897.

Good strong binding in half leather and black cloth boards, with gilt titles and ornamentation on the spine, attractive marbled endpapers.

488 pages, no title page or index, but copies provided.

This volume is from the Birmingham Chess Club with the name written on several pages .

Many articles of interest including obituaries (Englisch, van der Linde, Tomlinson, etc.), biographies (Atkins, E. G. Sergeant, Signor Aspa, etc.), book reviews, correspondence, portraits, history (Antiquity of Chess, Chess in the Victorian era) etc.
