Original boards with decorative chess piece and board designs printed in red and black, spine worn with loss, internally good. Front endpaper removed.
Frontispiece diagram for four-handed chess, pp xiv,196,(4) adverts, plates, some folding, for different variant chess games.
Contains sections on Chess for four, three, and two players. Shorter sections on chess for six and eight players, and some "odds and ends of chess". Also correspondence resulting from the publication of the author's "Four Handed Chess" in 1881.
