"BULETIN PROBLEMISTIC" 1976
ROMANIAN PROBLEM MAGAZINE
SUPLIMENT nr.4 (1976) devoted to OCTAV COSTĂCHEL
Federația Română de Șah: "BULETIN PROBLEMISTIC" AL COMISIEI CENTRALE DE PROBLEME ȘI STUDII. SUPLIMENT nr.4 (1976). "Galeria Compozitorilor Șahiști români". OCTAV COSTĂCHEL.
București, Federația Română de Șah, 1976. Original softback staple-bound edition with a real photo of Octav Costăchel in page 1 (3 x 4 cm.). Typescript. 8 pages. 21 x 15 cm. In Romanian.
Good to very good: Minor defects. Some light wrinkles, with page tanning.
RARE AND SCARCE ROMANIAN PROBLEM MAGAZINE. Initially it was a quarterly publication, then an annual publication (in 1979 and 1980), and later every six months. “In response to numerous requests both in the country and abroad, the “Buletin Problemistic” editorial is able to announce that any issue of the magazine (xerox copies up to no.50) and its supplements can be obtained. Some reproductions are of medium quality, especially those of the first numbers”. This text appears inside of back cover of number 68. I honestly do not know if the whole edition up to number 68 (I do not know if more) was with an original photocopied later, although it was very likely that way. The numbers digitized by Marian Stere are of a very similar or identical quality. It is a magazine with a low technical quality of "print" very "artisanal".
Some supplements, in total 19, between the years 1974 and 2009, were also published independently: Supliment la Buletin Problemistic "Galeria Compozitorilor Șahiști români", sometimes dedicated to a Romanian composer.
This magazine belonged to Mr. John Roycroft. With the numbers 47-48 (I do not remember in which) there is a typed note, and inside number 59 there is a handwritten note by Valeriu Petrovici that attests to the exchange of magazines and chess books between Mr. Roycroft and "Buletin Problemistic".
COSTĂCHEL, Octav
* 06.ix.1911, Zătreni, ROM - † 16.xii.1987, Paris, FRA
At the beginning of his career (1930-1936, Iaşi) he focused on his role as a chess player, and later on as a composer of chess problems.
He invented the Costăchel theme with mate in two movements (1936).
President of the Romanian Chess Federation: 1962-1967.
Together with A.F. Ianovcic and Gheorghe Teodoru founded the problematic Bulletin (1971).
In an interview conducted by Marian Stere on August 20, 1985, Dr. Costachel told him that he composed approximately 200 problems, published in Die Schwalbe, Magyar Sakkvilag, Problem - JUG, Shahmat, Deutsche Schachzeitung, L'Italia Scacchistica, in the The Netherlands and France, and that after its appearance, the "Buletin Problemistic" was made through xeroxcopies during three years (in secret) in the institute where it worked.
