DESCRIPTION

"THE CHESS COMPOSITIONS OF E. B. COOK OF HOBOKEN" 1927

By Dr. H. Keidanz

Keidanz, Dr. H.: "THE CHESS COMPOSITIONS OF E. B. COOK OF HOBOKEN". With critical and historical notes BY DR. H. KEIDANZ.

New York, Theodore H. Keidanz, 1927. Original publisher dark blue cloth edition, with gold embossed Title in front cover and spine. A reading pointing tape is present. Title page + 358 pages. With portrait and facsimile dedication of E. B. Cook. 23,8 x 16,2 cm. In English.

Very good: Some slight defect in the covers, as can be seen in the photographs, slightly important in the spine, which has slightly beaten ends, more visible in the lower, also affecting the lower edges of the spine, which are slightly cracked. The title on the spine is partially faded. Very light rubbing at the corners. Some slight fold, as in the outer side margin of the Title page or the first pages. Small breaks of some snag in the lower margin of pages 119-122. Light notes with pencil (probably erasable) in the upper margin of the last safeguard and inside the back cover. Sincerely, a copy in a very good condition, and nice to have in your hands. PLEASE SEE THE PHOTOGRAPHIC MATERIAL CAREFULLY, BECAUSE IT IS PART OF THE DESCRIPTION!!

Linde - N. 2704; Betts 33 - 21.

"Contains a biographical introduction, followed by 651 of [Eugene Beauharnais] Cook's problems. About two - thirds of these are two- and three - movers; the collection also includes some studies, self - mates, letter problems, symbolic problems etc." (Betts).

After Cook‟s death in 1915, his biographer, Dr. H. Keidanz, intended to fulfill the wish of his master. But although he collected material beyond that which Cook had already gathered, and although he wasassisted by Mr. White, he could not finish the work and left it for the next generation of chess scholars. In 1927, however, he did publish the record of Cook‟s life and achievements in chess in a fine bookentitled, The Chess Compositions of E. B. Cook of Hoboken.
