DESCRIPTION

Praha 1943

strong int. tournament won by Alkehine

by Ludek Pachman

the scarcest version of Prague 1943 books

Pachman, Ludek: Velikonocni mistrovsky sachovy turnaj v Praze 1943. Praha, publisher not stated, 1944. Common contemporary binding with no lettering.  Mimeographed on cheap paper, (2), (4) pages of smaller size (= program of the tournament), title, VIII, 32, (2) pages. Size 28 cm. In Czech (program in both Czech and German). Not in LN. Not in Soukup. Mokry 149. The weight 200 grams.

Fair:  edges somewhat rubbed, ink stain at the top of spine. All leaves have green ink stain at the top margin near spine, not affecting the text. 2 leaves (pages III-VI) have ca 8 cm tear (text is complete) - picture 6. Title and the last leaf are slightly stained, else internally OK, with no writings. Both front and back covers - containing 8 photos - are bound in.

The book includes 4-page tournament program, written simultaneously in Czech and German, bound in at the title page (picture 1). The program is on better paper than the book. As almost always, two sheets with Index and Errata are missing. These sheets were printed later, after the book was published.

Strong international tournament, 20 players round robin – the winner was Alekhine 17 of 19 ahead of Keres 14.5, 3.Katetov, 4.-5.Foltys, Sajtar etc.

The book on Prague 1943 appears in 4 different variations (2x large size, size 14x20 with photos, size 14x20 cm without photos).

This is the scarcest one. In addition to other versions, it includes:

  • program of the tournament bound in at the title page
  • detailed report about the thema tournament on the Kings Gambit, held after the international tournament, won by Pachman - with crosstable and 13 games.
  • 3 photos, which are not in the other versions (pictures 3, 4).
