Chess Set - Barleycorn/Nuremberg style:
A complete Chess set with bone pieces Barleycorn/Nuremberg style with a wooden chessboard with an inlaid glass surface. The pieces are estimated mid 19th century, the board probably 20th century. But I am no expert so the timeframes can be inaccurate.
Some useful information on the Barleycorn/Nuremberg style:
"Plain Nuremberg (Plain German)Barleycorn design was used in continental Europe as well. The design believed to have been originated from Germany has clearly different proportions than English sets. The round sections and Rooks look shorter. Another different feature is the sawed-out Knight which appears in many Continental designs, including Selenus. Rook Flag finials are not used."

"Nuremberg, and Augsburg as well, were in the 19th-century centres for toy makers. They made also chess sets. In Nuremberg pattern sheets from the mid-19th century, you see this type of chess sets. Also, Selenus type, including the narrow Spindle ones, and the "Toy" sets are found in those pattern sheets. Pieces of Nuremberg sets are very fragile, like the "Selenus" sets, and easily damaged, especially the bone ones. The sets are very common, but complete and undamaged sets are scarce."

Condition: Chess pieces with only a few blemishes like very tiny chippings. Overall in very good condition. Chessboard with some wear.

I combine shipping – you always pay just real postage! The packing materials are free.
I send with the so-called "Paketmarke" (for further information https://www.post.at/privat_versenden_paket_paketmarke.php) which is, in general, the most cost-effective and reliable way to send parcels in Austria. One feature is that the shipment costs are defined via the longest and the shortest side of the parcel. The weight isn´t important although it is limited to 31,5 kg. The parcel is also insured up to € 500,-.
Therefore if you win more than 1 lot and the books fit into the same parcel, the shipment costs will be the same as for 1 book.
Important: Please wait with payment until you get my confirmation email, as the shipping costs have to be calculated.
