Good to very good: The 3 general defects are the normal browning (in this kind of paper) at the edges, partial discoloration on some cover (very few), and the spines somewhat damaged (normally at the lower end). Inside in good to very good condition. The only book that deserves an individual mention, regarding defects, is the book "De Schaakstudie" V. Werking, that has a small loss (2 x 0,5 cm) of the outer side on the front cover, and also has the back cover completely loose, attached to the book with transparent adhesive tape. A UNIQUE OCCASION TO GET THE 2 COMPLETE SERIES!!

Linde - N. 2346 "De schaakstudie", and 2347 "Bronnen van de schaakstudie".

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Alexander Rueb (December 27, 1882 – February 2, 1959) was a Dutch lawyer, diplomat, and chess official.

He was born in The Hague. One of the founders of international chess governing body, FIDE, Rueb was elected its first president in 1924. He was succeeded by Folke Rogard in 1949. From 1923 through 1928, he was president of the Royal Dutch Chess Federation. His large and well-known chess library was destroyed by bombs in 1945, but he rebuilt it after World War II. The collection was placed in the Amsterdam University Library after his death.

Rueb was also an important figure in the field of endgame studies, simultaneously publishing two standard works: De Schaakstudie (Gouda, 1949–55, 5 vols.) and the five volume companion Bronnen van Schaakstudie."

The following information appears in the ANTIQUARIAT KLITTICH - PFANKUCH GmbH & Co catalogs: "The dutch dr. Alexander Rueb was a successful lawyer (since 1908 on the "Hoge Raad", the Supreme Court of the Netherlands) and (later) judge and diplomat (for 36 years Consul of Luxembourg in the Netherlands). In the chess world, he is well known as the first FIDE president (from 1924 to 1949) and as the founder of the "National Schaakgebouw" (NSG) in The Hague, whose chess library and archive on endgames / studies had been largely compiled by him. His great passion was the endgame and the study. His "studies" are characterized by a system whose presentation would lead too far."

Although its price normally ranges between 75-125 EUR for each series, in the 54 Klittich-Pfankuch Auction (November 2008) the 2 series were auctioned separately, reaching the same price, 170 EUR each, so the 2 series was sold for a Total Price 418,37 EUR!!! (Total Hammerprice 170 x 2 = 340 EUR + Buyers Premium 15% 51,00 EUR + 7% VAT 27,37 EUR)Perhaps it reached this spectacular price because the 5 Index were present, which is especially rare.
