DESCRIPTION

"The Book of the Nottingham International Chess Tournament, 1936" by Alexander Alekhine. Published in hardback by Printing Craft in 1937. First Edition. 291pp. The book is in Good minus condition. The internal (semi-glossy) pages are largely clean and unmarked apart from the occasional penned tick next to the start of a game plus some mild foxing like discolouration to the first and last few pages. However, the boards have badly faded (see scans) and the book has the feel of a volume that has not been very well cared for (page binding a little shaky, for example). The page edge block is quite clean with just age related tanning and the occasional speck to note. There is a previous owner's name and address in pen on the front endpaper. The dustjacket is a FACSIMILE of the David McKay (ie. US) first edition and only in Fair plus condition as the coloured part of the jacket is slightly too small for the book, resulting in a white border for the remainder. Despite all these depredations, this is still a wonderful tournament First Edition of one of the great chess events of the 20th C. Games are in English descriptive notation. Further scanned images are available on request. Approx.unpacked weight: 540g. Postage by Royal Mail within the UK: £3.00. Postage to Europe and elsewhere will be extra. Please ask me for details.
