"Chess Monthly, Volume IV (1882/83)" edited by L. Hoffer and J. Zuckertort. Published in hardback by Jas. Wade in 1883. First Edition. 380 larges pages. Plus index. The volume is in Good overall condition. The binding is strong, the book stands straight with no shelf lean and there are no loose pages. The internal pages are all largely clean and inscription free. The speckled red page edge block shows only slight signs of handling. The volume was previously the property of the Birmingham Chess Club in England and their ink stamp adorns several pages. The gilt lettering on the spine of the volume reads: "Chess Monthly 1892-93" but the magazines are clearly for 1882-83, as seen by the title page (see scan) and the internal games and news articles. Also, the page numbering is incorrectly bound as the volume starts at page 129 and goes through to page 380 then we have pages 1 through to 128. Clearly, a Victorian artisans error! The volume has clearly been well cared for over the years and despite the above depredations it is a nice example of 19th Century chess literature. The volume is currently housed in a removable see-through sleeve. Games and positions are in old fashioned English descriptive notation. Further scanned images are available on request. Heavy! Approx.unpacked weight: 845g. Postage by Royal Mail within the UK: £4.00. Postage to Europe and elsewhere will be extra. Please ask me for details.
