"CHESS, Volume 13" edited by B.H.Wood. Published in hardback by CHESS, Sutton Coldfield in 1948. First Edition. 292pp. No index. Magazine numbers 145-156 (Oct 1947 - Sept 1948). The volume is in Good minus overall condition for its age. The boards are clean (apart from the occasional blemish) and there is no shelf lean. The binding feels a little shaky. The gilt lettering on the spine area has faded but is still very visible. The spine area shows signs of scuffing and that damage that may not be clear from the scanned image. The page edge block is tanned from age. The internal pages are all clean and inscription free. The quality of paper available so soon after the war was quite poor by modern standards and this has resulted in tanning to all the internal pages but this is not as strong as some volumes I have seen. Pages 1-2 are FACSIMILES of the original that have been neatly glued into place. Bookplate on the front endpaper (see scan). Games and positions are in English descriptive notation.
