Comprehensive history of chess

in town Tabor and in South Bohemia

Tabor, chess club „Fiala“, 1932. Orig. softcover. Photos in text, 64 pages + (4) pages supplement on living chess. Size 31 x 23 cm. In Czech. LN 3750, Soukup 80. Mokry 188b. Published 500 copies. The weight 230 grams.

Fair:  covers somewhat soiled, somewhat creased, with small tears at margins. Front cover has two pen notes at the top. Spine is worn and chipped at the top and bottom. Internally light/some general signs of use but no major flaws. Text is clean with no writings.

This memorial volume of the chess club „Fiala“ contains very detailed history of chess in South Bohemia and in town Tabor. The book brings a lot of information about South Bohemian chess that practically cannot be obtained from other sources.

It includes also a lot of information about chess problems.

  • Bibliographical sketch of the problemist Karel Fiala (1864-1916), 21 problems of various authors to his memory and a poem by Ferra In Memoriam Karel Fiala (p.3-10)
  • Photos and short biographicals sketches of club honour members and officials (p.11-15)

  • 36 problems by South-Bohemian composers, diagrammed, with solutions (pp.39-42)
  • A list of South-Bohemian problemists, with biographical sketches (pp.43-49)
  • International problem tournament (pp.50-55)
  • An article to 50th birthday of Oldrich Duras, by Votruba (p.55)
  • some information on the Fiala Memorial tourney (pp.57-59)
  • the list of Czech problemists (pp.60-61).

 

A 4-page pamphlet „Ziva sachova partie Bitva u Zborova“ is bound in (it is a way, how it was published) – it contains the notation and explanation of the living chess game, held at Tabor in July and August 1929.

Circulation was 500 copies, a part of which were hard- and part were softcover. This is softcover one.
