FASCINATING STORY ABOUT A LOST MANUSCRIPT, THAT THERE WOULD BE THE FIRST CHESS DOCUMENT IN THE AMERICA. THIS MANUSCRIPT EXISTED REALLY, OR IS IT A HOAX LEGACY BY WILLARD FISKE???

- Contains a preface (p. 3-6) and a Sketch (p.7-14) by Fiske

- Aucta 339, Not in L/N or Betts

- cf Hagedorn p 48 footnote 30; the thoght of the missing manuscript haunted Fiske for the rest of his life.

- The manuscript is still missing - if found it will be the oldest piece of American Chess literature. A detailed account of the history of the Rou treatise ("The missing manuscript") and the quest for it can be foundin Alfred C Klahre ; Early Chess in America, N.Y. 1934.

- To learn more about this possible lost manuscript, I recommend reading the excellent article by Edward Winter (2004), containing detailed and extensive information from different experts in chess, throughout history http://www.chesshistory.com/winter/extra/whodunit.html

There is a slightly different later (as you can see on page 2 in "ANY INFORMATION" of the following link: https://archive.org/details/lostmanuscriptof00fisk) version of 20 pages, published 9 months later (October 1902, but published before in "NOTES AND QUERIES" July 19. THE VERSION OF MY AUCTION, AS YOU CAN SEE IN THE PHOTO ON PAGE 15, WAS PRINTED BEFORE IN JANUARY 1902), with a different Title: "The lost manuscript of the Reverend Lewis Rou's 'Critical remarks upon the Letter to the Craftsman on the game of chess' written in 1734 and dedicated to His Excellency William Cosby, governor of New York".
