MAR DEL PLATA 1936 by Club de Ajedrez Jaque Mate

EXTREMELY RARE, INCREDIBLY SCARCE AND PRACTICALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND!!!!

bound together with

"VENTNOR CITY TOURNAMENT 1939" by REINFELD

RARE, VERY SCARCE AND INCREDIBLY HARD TO FIND!!

1- Alegría, Enrique (Dir.): "SEXTO TORNEO SUDAMERICANO DE AJEDREZ". MAR DEL PLATA 1936. Organizado por la Federación Argentina de Ajedrez.

Buenos Aires, Club de Ajedrez Jaque Mate, 1936. Original front cover + Title page + Beautiful group photo of the 16 participants, organizers and different personalities with tissue guard, with their facsimile signatures + II unnumbered Foreword pages (by Enrique Alegría with your facsimile signature) + II unnumbered pages (by Paulino Alles Monasterio with your facsimile signature+ 62 pages + 2 unnumbered Index pages of games. Mimeographed and printed in recto. In Spanish. Perhaps the number behind the Title page indicates that it was a numbered and limited edition, but I cannot assure you.

2- Reinfeld, Fred: "VENTNOR CITY TOURNAMENT 1939". Edited by Fred Reinfeld. Limited Editions: Volume XCOPY NO. 33 OF A NUMBERED (AND LIMITED?) EDITION. The printed quantity is unknown according to Michael Clapham in the following link https://chessbookchats.blogspot.com/2019/02/limited-edition-tournament-books_13.html

New York, Fred Reinfeld, 1939. 92 pagesMimeographed and printed in recto. In English.

Beautiful link on the history of the Tournaments played at Ventnor 1939-1945: https://www.chess.com/article/view/advance-to-ventnor-i

BOUND TOGETHER. Beautiful private quarter hardback binding with 2 labels with gold print on spine27,5 x 21,7 cm.

Very good to excellent: General very good or excellent condition. Due to problems with the light, which caused it to appear that the binding was stained (in reality the "white spots" are caused by the light when contacting the beautiful but rough binding), I preferred to take all the necessary photos to properly appreciate the excellent binding.

"SEXTO TORNEO SUDAMERICANO DE AJEDREZ": Annotation ("Para uso personal sin fines comerciales" - "For personal non-commercial use") and unknown signature in the upper inner corner next to the spine, on the Title Page. General foxing on all pages due to the mimeograph printing method. The photos speak for themselves about the poor quality of the printing method used. Enrique Alegría himself in the Prologue apologizes for the scarce means used to publish the book, but the economic issue was a priority. The subsequent binding has not been brilliant either, and on some page the binding cut has almost mutilated some text. Fortunately, I checked page by page, and the text is complete, and only in the upper inner corner next to the spine in page 61, the word "Era" has been cut slightly, although I think it is sufficiently appreciated.

"VENTNOR CITY TOURNAMENT 1939": Without the original covers, but in excellent condition. On page 47, after White's move 40, there is a smear of printing ink, but it does not affect the text, as the variant offered in the comment is complete.

Linde - N. 5527 ("SEXTO TORNEO SUDAMERICANO DE AJEDREZ") and 5611 ("VENTNOR CITY TOURNAMENT 1939").

"SEXTO TORNEO SUDAMERICANO DE AJEDREZ": "FIRST PUBLISHED TOURNAMENT BOOK IN ARGENTINA AND MAYBE IN SOUTH AMERICA" (Alles Monasterio).

Any of the 2 books separately is AN AUTHENTIC RARITY, VERY SCARCE AND INCREDIBLY HARD TO FIND!! In the 29 editions of the Klittich-Pfankuch Auktion that I know, 2003 November - 2006 June, and 2008 November - 2019 June, a copy of these books were never auctioned!!

THE BOOK OF REINFELD IS AN AUTHENTIC JEWEL, BUT THE BOOK "SEXTO TORNEO SUDAMERICANO DE AJEDREZ" IS AN ABSOLUTE RARITY, ESPECIALLY TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE PRACTICALLY NULL INFORMATION ON THE INTERNET AND BY THE PRINTING METHOD (VERY BAD TO PROPERLY KEEP THE BOOK).
