"CHESS, Volume 1" edited by B.H. Wood. Published by CHESS, Sutton Coldfield in 1935/36. First Edition. 476pp. Plus index. PLEASE NOTE that this auction item consists of the original magazine issues numbers 3-12 plus issues 1, 2 and the index in FACSIMILE format. The magazines are bound in a vintage "Cordex" binder that secures each magazine individually by way of an elasticated string which is placed along the middle pages of each separate issue. The spine of the binding (see scan) has the faded word "CHESS" on it plus a smudged ink blob that is meant to denote "Volume 1". The magazines are in Good minus overall condition with a strong vertical crease on each one plus the occasional pencilled annotation. The Sept 1936 issue has half of its rear cover missing as a previous owner cut the part of the cover out in order to enter a competiion involving the Nottingham 1936 International Chess Tournament! The page edge block has tanned from age and handling. All the magazine covers are still in place, although a few look as though the attachment is not that strong. Many magazine covers have small specks or scuff marks to note, commensurate with age. The rear cover of the binder has some small stain marks. The blue binder covers are not as bright as they appear in the scanned images. Games and positions are in English descriptive notation. Further scanned images are available on request. Heavy! Approx.unpacked weight: 1465g. Postage by Royal Mail within the UK: £4.00. Postage to Europe and elsewhere will be extra. Please ask me for details.
