DESCRIPTION

Nuevo Ensayo de Bibliografía Española de Ajedrez (NEBEA)

The New Essay of Spanish Chess Bibliography (NEBEA) is an arduous research work in which the authors (José A. Garzón, Josep Alió and Miquel Artigas) travel to 8 centuries of Spanish history and culture through manuscripts, most unknown, and the Spanish books about the game of chess.

It is an absolute thematic or disciplinary bibliography, since all Spanish chess works are established (XIII-XX centuries), with a complete and rigorous study of each of them, and with reproductions of original images of all of them, something  that gives it a extraordinary interest. Contributions mark the entire work, beginning with the study of the Book of Games, Seville 1283, of King Alfonso X the  Wise, a masterpiece for the history of chess; the analysis of the different versions in Catalan and Spanish of the famous Liber de Jacobo de Cessolis; the confirmation in scoop of the dating in Valencia in 1475 of the poem Scachs d'amor, work of joint authorship of the famous poets Fenollar, Vinyoles and Castellví; or the in-depth study of the books and  manuscripts of Vicent, Lucena, Damiano, Reyna, Ruy López and Alfonso Cerón.

It also presents, surprisingly, works unknown until today by three of the great figures of the Spanish chess revival period (late 19th century, early 20th century): José Tolosa y Carreras, Esteban Puig and Puig and, above all, José Paluzíe and Lucena, to which the authors have dedicated the work.

It is, in short, a work of remarkable interest for chess history scholars, researchers and humanists, in short, for any sensitive spirit towards our History and Culture.

Detailed description of 164  principal works, also other secundary works.

1001 footnotes.
266 images, many never published, along with numerous diagrams and photographs.
Index, Tables, Bibliography and Glossary.
