11th Edn. Sm8vo (90 x 150mm) contemporary leather, covers worn, rebacked with later leather, top hinge cracked, contained  within a cloth slipcase with handwritten title on spine, end-paper and first page loose otherwise In good condition for its age. pp xii,208. Chess on p.149-164. Signed by Edmond Hoyle and Thomas Osborne. (This was to protect against pirated copies as stated in the advertisement.) LN 3494.

SIGNATURE OF W.M.THACKERAY ON FRONT ENDPAPER. William Makepeace Thackeray (1811-1863) was one of the foremost British authors of the 19th century, one of his best-known novels being "Vanity Fair".
