DESCRIPTION

Vladimir Nabokov (V. Sirin): Han som spelade schack med livet (1936).

The famous novel Zashchita Lushina [The Defense] was written in Russian by Vladimir Vladimirovich Nabokov (1899-1977) in 1930 and published in Berlin under the pseudonym V. Sirin. During his stay in Berlin (1920-1937) his father was murdered in 1922.

In 1932 the novel La Course du fou was translated and published in French. The second translation into Swedish, Han som spelade schack med livet, was made by Ellen Rydelius in 1936. English translation only in 1964!

In 1937 Nabokov left Germany for France and in 1940 he fled to USA. In 1945 his brother Sergey died in Neuendamme concentration camp.
