Jan Przewoźnik, Zbigniew Hurnik, Karol Pinkas-
Śląskie ciekawostki szachowe (Silesian Chess Curiosities )
2nd edition (revised and extended).
Gorzów Wielkopolski 2018
What do you call instant parties in Silesia? Flexible pins ... At least according to the book "Silesian Chess Curiosities" just published.
Its authors are Silesian chess players, and the text is given in two language versions: in Polish and in Silesia. The chess team from Katowice played a match with the team from Halle from the "brotherly" German Democratic Republic. Chess games have been exchanged. A player from East Germany proudly entered the scientific title in front of his name: dr ing. " (professor doctor engineer). Instead, the Katowice player playing with him preceded his name with the abbreviation "Pr. Phys. ". The surprised German began to ask what this meant. And the Katowice man said: - Manual worker !!!
This is one of many anecdotes in the book. Someone who does not play chess will not understand much of this reading. It is full of records of chess games played by the Silesians during various tournaments. There are, among others parties with the famous world champion Garri Kasparov, who visited Katowice in 1993.
