Original green cloth, paper title-label on front cover, small split on top joint otherwise very good. Frontispiece diagram, pp xvi, 160, (24 adverts.)  Includes a selection of 50 new chess problems. LN 666.

From the J.W.Rimington-Wilson chess library. Also a "Presentation copy to Sir F.Madden". Sir Frederick Madden, Keeper of Manuscripts in the British Museum and one of the best palaeographers of his day, was led to write an important paper on early and medieval chess pieces in 1832 by the recent discovery of the Isle of Lewis chessmen in Scotland.
