Praze, chess club Dobrusky, (1932). Original red cloth with gold embossed in front cover and spine, with no dust jacket, as issued. Half Title page + XVI (including Title page) + 8 unnumbered pages with 13 b/w photos + 1 leaf + 256 pages. 25,1 x 17,7 cm. In Czech.

 

Very good to excellent: Slight discoloration on the spine and on the upper margin of the covers. Minimal foxing with few spots on the endpapers. Inside in excellent condition, with only very light browning in edges. The first 5 photos are from the copy of this auction. The rest are archive photos of a copy sold on EBAY in 2014, the interior of which was virtually identical.

Final result was: 1.USA (Kashdan, Marsahll, Dake, Horowitz, H. Steiner), 2.Poland, 3.Czechoslovakia, 4.Yugoslavia, 5.Germany, 6.Latvia, 7.Sweden, 8.Austria, 9.Great Britain, etc., together 19 teams each other on 4 boards. In the Olympiad took part almost 100 players, among them many top players of that time: Aljechin (Alekhine), Bogoljubov, Kashdan, Sultan Khan, Stahlberg, Flohr, Gruenfeld, Rubinstein, Mikenas, Vidmar, Tartakower, Stoltz, Spielmann, Marshall, Yates etc. The Winner of the Woman tournament was Vera Menchik with 100 per cent score (8 points of 8 - 5 players double round robin). The book includes:

  • 329 games of the Olympiad (from ca 680 played), almost all of them are annotated by authors of the book or by other masters. Games are shown round-by round and within rounds match-by-match.
  • Round summaries (always 1-2 pages long).
  • Results of the Olympiad both teams and individuals in detail.
  • All 8 games played by Vera Menchik with her own annotations.
  • Indexes of players, teams and openings.
  • 13 interesting b/w photos. A sample below shows the USA team + Vera Menchik with Mrs. Stevenson.
