Thon, Christian Friedrich Gottlieb: "C. F. G. Thon's Meister im Schachspiel" und zwar im gewöhnlichen Zweischach, wie im Vierschach, auch im großen Kriegs- und Courierspiele nach alter wie neuer Methode. Nach gänzlicher Veraltung der früheren Auflagen jetzt dem neuesten Standpunkte der Schachkunde gemäß, in fünfter vollkommen umgearbeiteter Auflage völlig neu herausgegeben von M. Lange. Hierzu ein lithographirtes, modernes großes Schachbret mit 32 verschiedenen Rösselsprüngen, und außerdem 8 Figuren.

Good: Typical defects of a book of that time, with some foxing, some annotation or underlining (relatively few) with pencil (possibly easy to erase), some stain on the Lithograph, a couple of stamps on the Title Page, some annotation on the inside front cover, slight cracks in the spine between pages 82-83, and spine with two paper stickers (the bottom one looks like a Library tag). For the rest, a copy in good condition to work, since all the text is seen clearly. The biggest, and very important defect, is the absence of the lithograph with the 32 boards with different solutions to the problem of the knight route. I can print a copy, in the best possible quality, of the photograph from the 1846 copy that I sold in May 2019, but the 3-5 boards in the upper right corner (as we look at the photograph) look very fuzzy, and some of these it is very difficult or impossible to read the route correctly. It is true that the absence of lithographs is frequent. For example, the copy of the "New York Public Library"(https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=nyp.33433066583422&view=1up&seq=1), which belonged to the great American Champion Frank James Marshall, does not have them. In addition, this copy of Marshall is missing pages 81-94 and the final 2 advertising pages, and pages 95-96 are bound after page 112. On the contrary, the copy of the "Koninklijke Bibliotheek" has a complete copy: https://books.google.es/books?id=sf5dAAAAcAAJ&printsec=frontcover&hl=es&source=gbs_ge_summary_r&cad=0#v=onepage&q&f=false.

This it is the fifth edition of the book of Thon, published for the first time in 1840, but this fifth edition is very difficult to obtain, is an expanded edition, and it is the first in which Max Lange collaborates.
