DESCRIPTION

"AUFGABEN FÜR SCHACHSPIELER,

NEBST IHREN LÖSUNGEN"

RARE, VERY SCARCE AND VERY HARD TO FIND

By Adolf Anderssen (1852)

Anderssen, Adolf: "Aufgaben für Schachspieler, nebst ihren Lösungen". Von A. Anderssen. Zweite gänzlich umgearbeitete Auflage.

Breslau, Johann Urban Kern, 1852. 64 pages, with the first 4 (including Title page) in Roman numerals I-IV. Beautiful private quarter hardback binding with gold print on spine21,5 x 13,5 cm. In German.

Good: General foxing spots throughout the book, although more important in the first and last pages. Inside without deeds or marks, with only an unknown signature on the Title Page. Stains next to the spine between pages 26-27, and 58-63, probably from some glue when the book was bound. Ex-libris (inside front cover) and small pencil annotation probably easy to erase (at bottom edge of page 64), both from former owner, Italian collector Mr. Pellegrini. Honestly, the book is very pleasant to have in your hands, and is structurally in excellent condition.

L/N 2377, Kieler Schachkatalog 6594.

In this book, from page 5, in the odd-numbered pages are printed 2 chess problem diagrams with its statement, and rear, in the even-numbered pages, the solution of the 2 previous chess problems. The 60 chess problems published in this book are mates in 3 moves, up mates in 9 moves.

Anderssen only published 2 books, both on chess problems. The first book is the first edition of this book published in 1842 (L/N 2376), but with 60 completely different chess problems.

Rare, very scarce and very hard to find.

At auctions it always reaches prices above 300 EUR. In the 58 Klittich-Pfankuch Auction, sold for a Total Price 561,20 EUR. And the 1842 "Edition" I only know of an auction result at 72 Klittich-Pfankuch Auction, and it fetched a total price of 861,35 EUR.
