Frantisek Pithart

2 scoresheets from a simuls

against masters Jan Foltys and Oldrich Duras

 

The scoresheets are in Czech, written in pen in Pithart‘s hand, not signed.

1) Pithart – Foltys, Kladno 1939, 1:0 in 47 moves

2) Duras – Pithart, probably Prague, 18. 12. 1947, a draw in 26 moves

Size: 23.5 cm.

Good to very good:  light/some general signs of use.

Biographical data:

Frantisek Pithart (1915-2003), Czech master (since 1951) and noted trainer. One of the best Czech players after wws. He participated in the finals of Czechoslovak championships many times. He took part in the chess olympiad Helsinki 1952 and in European team chamionship 1957. Author of many books and articles.

Jan Foltys (1908-1952), IM, one of the best Czech players in 1930s and 1940s. Czech champion in 1940 and 1943, he played three times in the Olympiads (1936, 1937, 1939), his greatest success was probably the third place in Podebrady 1936 (after Flohr and Alekhine), he came third in Prague 1942 (1.-2. Alekhine, Junge).

Oldrich Duras (1882-1957) was one of the strongest Czech chess players ever, he belonged to the world’s best players in early 20th century. Several times Czech champion, shared winner in tournaments Barmen 1905, Vienna 1908, Prague 1908, etc. His last tournament was Mannheim 1914, then Duras never came back to the tournament chess after the wwi.
