Nine of the twelve copies of "CHESS, Volume 11" edited by B.H.Wood. Published in hardback by CHESS, Sutton Coldfield in 1946. First Edition. 231pp. Plus index. Magazine numbers 124-132 (Jan 1946 - Sept 1946). PLEASE NOTE that magazine issues numbered 121, 122 and 123 are missing from this volume. The volume as it stands is in Good overall condition for its age. The boards are clean (apart from the occasional tiny blemish) and there is no shelf lean. The binding is strong. The gilt lettering on the spine area has faded very slightly but is still very visible. The internal pages are all very clean and inscription free. The quality of paper available so soon after the war was quite poor by modern standards and this has resulted in tanning to all the internal pages but this is not as strong as some volumes I have seen. All the magazines have a vertical crease (see scan) from having been posted back at the time of publication. This volume formerly belonged to Thomas Sweby, doyen of Bedfordshire Chess and chess correspondent of The Luton News. Games and positions are in English descriptive notation. Further scanned images are available on request. Approx.unpacked weight: 500g. Postage by Royal Mail within the UK: £2.50. Airmail postage to Europe and elsewhere will be extra - please ask me for details.
