DESCRIPTION

"WILLEM JAN WOLTHUIS"

Keuze uit zijn beste partijen

By Hans Ree (1994)

Ree, Hans: "WILLEM JAN WOLTHUIS. Keuze uit zijn beste partijen". Met analyses van Hans Ree.

Amsterdam, VAS/ASC, 1994. Original softback edition. 36 unnumbered pages. 20,6 x 14,6 cm. In Dutch.

Excellent: Fine condition. Only 4 marks (probably from some object that was on top) almost imperceptible to the naked eye from the front cover (the book must be tilted so that the light falls directly on the area), although it is possible to appreciate it from the inside of the front cover.

In pages 8-35 Hans Ree comments 10 of Wolthuis' best games, the first from 1934, and the last from 1974.

Willem Jan Wolthuis passed away on the 20th of June 2006 at the age of 86. After the Second World War, Wim (as he was called) was a very strong player for many years, and in the sixties and seventies of the last century also organizer of big chess tournaments like the famous IBM tournaments in Amsterdam.

Interestingly, on the Internet, practically all sources mention 1920 as the year of their birth:
https://secure.newinchess.com/Wolthuis__Willem_Jan-ip-54608.html
https://www.chessgames.com/player/willem_wolthuis.html
However, this information is incorrect, since on page 5 his date of birth clearly appears: 30-12 (December)-1919.

The book was the property of Mathematician and Chess Collector René van der Heyden. Its "stamp" can be seen dimly on page 2. Link about René van der Heyden: https://www.kwabc.org/en/newsitem/in-memoriam-rene-van-der-heijden.html
