DESCRIPTION

"Horæ Divanianæ (A selection of 150 original games at chess by leading masters, etc......)" by Elijah Williams. Published in hardback by the author in 1852. First Edition. 178pp. Betts 24-3. The book is in Fair condition for its age. The binding is shaky and there is damage and loss to the head and tail of the spine (see scans). The boards have faded slightly although the gilt lettering remains strong on the front board. Internally the pages are reasonably clean and annotation free apart from the occasional speck or tick, here and there. The pages appear to be all still attached to the binding but the binding gutter is slightly open in several places. Rebinding might be the best option. The page edge blocks are strongly tanned from age and handling. There are stamps of the "Dundee Chess Club" and a London bookbinder (see scan). For all this books depredations this is a rare chess volume that seldom comes up for auction. Further scanned images are available on request. Approx.unpacked weight is 280g. Postage by Royal Mail within the UK is £3.00. Airmail postage to Europe and elsewhere will be extra - please ask me for details.
