A Collection of scachographic and other chess problems and a complete chess ABC - book.

This book is first russian book on chess composition!

Saint-Petersburg,  1867, 1st edition, 182 pages with 84 problems, without frontispiece, a some yellowed from time spots, contemporary private blue leather cover wirh gil lettering on title and spine.

 Russian chess master and composer Ilya Schumow (1819 - 1881) was an officer of the Russian Baltic fleet and in the naval Ministry. He was considered one of the strongest Russian chess players of his time and played several competitions against Urusov, Jänisch, Winawer and Petrov. In 1869 he was involved in the founding of the St. Petersburg chess society. 

Schumow created about 200 chess compositions, some with entertainment or political connotations. The present edition is the first Russian book about chess problems. Text in Russian and French.

Extremely rare, very scarce and very hard to find.

Binding is very tight.  internally is good with no writings.

Very good condition.
