DESCRIPTION

Opening ceremony of the Treybal Memorial in Prague 1946. Original photo from Frantisek Hertl.

In the first row on the right is the chairman of the Czechoslovak Chess Union Dionysius Polansky. Next to him is the widow of Karel Treybal (Marketa Treybalova) with her son and daughter. In the first row on the left is Czech master Cenek Kottnauer and next to him is the Czechoslovak Minister of Education Zdenek Nejedly. Behind them on the left I recognize Czech masters Karel Opocensky, Jan Foltys, Frantisek Zita and Ludek Pachman. From foreign masters I recognize Miguel Najdorf in the middle of the right side.

This photo was published in a special issue nr. 2 of the Czech chess magazine Ceskoslovensky sach 1946 (page 2).

The Treybal Memorial took place in Prague from 3 to 22 October 1946 and was won by Najdorf ahead of Stoltz and Trifunovic. The other participants were Gligoric, Pachman, Golombek, Guimard, Foltys, Sajtar, Katetov, Kottnauer, Zita, Opocensky and Rohacek.

Size: 18 cm x 12 cm.

Condition - Very Good.
