The Chess-Player's Handbook

Original blind stamped cloth covers with gilt chessboard on front cover. Rebacked with original spine laid on.
Two short handwritten games and four problems/positions tipped in.
Good condition, some pages unopened.
This is the scarce 1847 first edition of Staunton's influential Handbook which became the standard text book of the 19th century. The frontis Sphynx problem has two chess pieces missing - see Chessbookchats 01/01/2016 which has a detailed description of this book.
