DESCRIPTION

1933-34 "HASTINGS CHESS CONGRESS"

LIMITED EDITION OF 60 COPIES

By E. G. R. Cordingley

Cordingley, Edgar George R.: "HASTINGS CHESS CONGRESS, Dec. 27th 1933 - Jan. 5th 1934: MASTERS' TOURNAMENT". Limited Edition of Tournament Books: Number Four. Copy No. 44 of a Limited Edition of 60 copies numbered and signed by E. G. R. Cordingley (at the bottom edge of the Preface). As can be seen in the Subscribers List this copy belonged to Reinfeld.

London and New York, E. G. R. Cordingley and Fred Reinfeld (American Agent), 1934. Cream colored linen binding (original? I don't know) without printings, with Title handwritten in black ink on the spine. Safeguard + 3 unnumbered leaves (including Title page and Preface) + 21 numbered leaves (actually the first one is unnumbered so as not to "interfere" with the Title. Games in leaves 1-19, Index to Openings and Index to Games in leaf 20, and Addendum with Errata and Crosstable in leaf 21) + 2 unnumbered leaves (including List of Subscribers, Previous Publications and Hastings Tournaments 1921 onwards) + Safeguard. 26,4 x 21,1 cm. In English.

Very good to excellent: Only noteworthy a kind of light general rubbing on the covers. Some minor flaws, but otherwise a practically new copy inside, and with excellent general condition.

L/N 5471; Betts 25 - 103.

Betts: "Typescript; stencilled on rectos only. Limited edition of 60 copies. The 45 games, about half annotated from various sources, with an introduction and scores of all Hastings Tournaments, 1921-1933. (1. Flohr; 2-3. Alekhine, Lilienthal). Algebraic notation".

EXTREMELY HARD TO FIND. Although it is sure that it will have ever been sold in an Auction or on the Internet, I never seen it on sale, except when I had the occasion to buy it.
