Leipzig, J. J. Weber, 1846. Original publisher linen binding, with gold-decorated front cover and spine, and blind embossing on the back cover. Anderssen's Portrait (with tissue guard) + XII (including Half Title page and Title page) + 2 unnumbered sheets ("Inhalt" and "Der aufsatz") + 206 pages + 1 unnumbered printing page. 17,3 x 12 cm. In German.

Fair to good: The most important flaw is the detached front cover, with the covers somewhat worn, although the prints are still shiny. Some defects, with some foxing in few pages. Dedication in the first safeguard. Small annotation in blue ink in a loose clipping on page 33 (perhaps of some importance, as it mentions Portius), written on both sides, one of them in German, and the other in Dutch. I have known 50% of its content, thanks to the collaboration of my great friend Christiaan M. Bijl, who has translated the Dutch side: "On the label in Dutch the former owner writes, that the Dutch Royal Library acquired this Almanach in 1975 and that the owner acquired it in 1977 (on the left side you can read where: Van Gendt = Van Gendt Book Auctions Amsterdam (disbanded about 25 years ago)". Christiaan M. Bijl. On the inside of the back cover, the spine looks somewhat cracked, so with use, in the future, it may end up loose (currently it holds up well). A minor spine repair by a binder is recommended. A copy with the beautiful original binding, with the shiny gold decorations, and with a repair of the spine, it can be turned into a good to very good copy. Please take a close look at the photos to know exactly the condition of the book.
Not in L/N. Van der Linde II, 300; Kieler Schachkatalog 251; 3083 Di Felice; Schmid S. 308: "A pleasant and therefore welcome gift. The author is unknown to us". In both Di Felice and Kieler Schachkatalog it is listed as a Magazine.
Book desired by collectors, reached at auction, prices close to 300 EUR, and on occasion exceeding them, as in the 43 Klittich-Pfankuch Auction, November 2003 (lot 575), without original binding, sold for a Total Price 393,76 EUR (including taxes).
