The magazine was published in the period from 1841 to 1902, from this 5th year the magazine appeared weekly, previously monthly, and expanded to include the "Journal of Indoor and Outdoor Amusements". It contains reports on endgames, games, tournaments, openings, problems and short articles on various topics in chess. The later volumes of the magazine are very rare and probably published by Ranken. The magazine was set up to be of interest to all classes of chess players.
Condition: Privately bound in two volumes. Some wear. Paper yellowed. Crack inside at gutter. Some wear and damage to spine. Index missing.
