DESCRIPTION

Studie

by Frantisek Dedrle, Praha 1925

First Czech book on endgame study

in scarce original binding

Dedrle, Frantisek: Studie.

Praha, chess club Dobrusky, 1925. Orig. green cloth. 84 pages. In Czech. Size 23 cm. The weight 220 grams. LN 2253. Soukup 29. Mokry 54.

Good or better / dust jacket not issued: the edges are a little/somewhat bumped, binding slightly spotted. The top corner of the first three leaves is a little creased (picture 3). Text is OK with no writings.

The book contains 150 studies of various composers + author's article on Pawn endgames. First Czech book on endgame study.

The book rarely appears in the original binding. We have had a paperback version in offer several times, but this is the first time in 30 years that we can offer this book in its original hard binding.

F. J. Prokop writes in the chess column of newspaper „28. rijen“ on Oct 3, 1925: "A nice cloth binding to a limited number of Dedrle's book „Studie“ was made by the chess club Dobrusky. The price of such a bound book with gold lettering in blue or red cloth is just 22 Crowns.

While Prokop writes about the blue and red cloth, this copy is in green cloth. The question is whether Prokop was mistaken (blue = green) or whether he didn't know about green binding. By the way, a copy in red cloth (pink-red or burgundy to be more precise) recently sold in this LSAK auction:
