"The British Chess Magazine, 1901". Published in hardback by Trubner & Co in 1901. First Edition. Volume 21. 512pp + 76pp. Includes index. The volume is in Good overall condition. The binding is good (could be tighter) and there is no shelf lean. There is very little evidence of any foxing. There is a faded stamp of the "National Liberal Club Chess Circle" on the first page of the Index (see scan). The page edge blocks have tanned but this appears to be mainly from age. There is moderate damage to the spine area wherein the surface has broken along the joints and the binding underneath is partially visible. Additional glueing may fix this. The volume appears to be inscription free. Internally, several pages have browning to extremities and also evidence of dried liquid damage (see scan). The volume incongruously includes, bound in at the end of the volume, a 76pp account of the Steinitz vs Lasker World Championship Match of 1894. Why this account is included in a 1901 volume is lost in the mists of time. The boards and leather are black in colour and I'm not sure if this was the BCM colour of choice in 1901 or if this is private binding. Scarce. Games are in English descriptive notation. Further scanned images are available on request. Heavy! 'Signed For' postage by Royal Mail within the UK: £5.00. Airmail postage to Europe and elsewhere will be extra - please ask me for details. Any questions, please just ask.
