DESCRIPTION

Shakhmaty (Шахматы) 1894, all published. Editor M. P. Fedorov, publisher A. S. Suvorin, St. Petersburg, 1894. Bound without covers. 192 pages. In Russian. LN 6316.

A rare Russian magazine published from January 15 to June 1, 1894 (a total of 12 issues).

Exlibris Frantisek Moucka.

Frantisek Moucka (1854 - 1898) is considered the first Czech chess journalist. He led many chess columns, founded the famous chess column in the magazine Zlata Praha (Golden Prague) and was one of the founders of the first proper Czech chess club, the “Český spolek šachovní” in 1884. He also owned a large chess library.

Condition - Good: private half-cloth binding without lettering, stamp of Frantisek Moucka on the page 177, a few pages slightly soiled (nothing serious) and browned. The only real flaw is the slightly torn pages 153-154 in the middle - see photo.
